Hi! My name is Shirley Lui and I am a lady travelling.

I started blogging about travelling alone on my marketing blog (you can read it here) and realized that I really liked documenting my travels. Coupled with lengthy talks with girlfriends and female relatives about the common fears of travelling alone, I decided to launch a separate blog dedicated to my adventures alone and inspire women to try it at least once in their life. It seemed like there were many out there who wanted to but were too scared to try.

So, how did this travelling alone solo begin? There's always a story behind the madness...

When I was 16, I went to Europe alone to study for the summer. At the time, I was the only student from my conservative, Catholic high school to have wanted this and because of that, I had to beg my reluctant guidance counsellors to sign my enrolment papers just to go. I almost didn't make the deadline! But thankfully, I made it to Europe and met a bunch of friends who became my students, travel buddies, and some, even life long friends. From this experience, I realized that the world was my classroom and I still had more to learn but the only way I can truly learn is to live abroad with locals.

So during my university years, I took on internships abroad. I even worked in Hong Kong, twice. The first time at an airline company and the second, at a tech company. Talk about a culture shock and a huge learning curve!

Nowadays, I am firmly based in Canada in Marketing and Creative Direction. My job allows for plenty of business travelling, which is a different way of experiencing life in different surroundings. Because of my job, I also have the flexibility to take multiple vacations and mini-trips to recharge. Almost all of my trips, both personal and business, are taken alone. As much as I love my friends and family, I do cherish the alone time and prefer to travel solo. I encourage everyone, especially women, to try it out. You may become addicted and understand why I am such an advocate for travelling solo. Or, you may not like it but at least you got to try it and prove that you can put yourself in a new surrounding and survive.

All it takes is a little know-how, gusto, and curiosity.

And that's why I'm here to help with all the ladies travelling. I will share all I know about exciting places to go, travel safety, outfits and travel gear that are both stylish and functional, and new foods to try...all while travelling solo. Ladies, you can have it all!

Cheers,

Shirley
